Over the past few days during the snow, dedicated members of your local fire company have been staffing the station to ensure responses weren’t delayed further due to the snow

For those that do not know, Goodwill Fire Company is a 100% volunteer fire department with a part time paid EMS system. Typically, members respond from home to respond on fire calls. Duty crews at the station decrease response times which is critical for normal operations but even more so during snow storms that already make getting to the station or scene difficult. While the number of weather related calls was minimal,(thank you to the citizens for staying inside and minimizng emergencies) snow storms add a level of complication to every call for reasons from road closures to downed power lines and even something as simple as removing a patient from their house to the ambulance becomes a task in icy conditions. A fire unit, typically a 4 wheel drive vehicle woth a plow, is dispatched on every call to ensure access is not an issue as well as to add staffing to the call for safety purposes. This means that the members had a busy weekend still. A big thank you goes out to anyone who donated food drinks or anything else to help us out during the storm.
Now that the storm is over, stay vigilant of ice and still, don’t go outside if you don’t have to! It’s cold and slippery! Stay safe!
